Quebec City-No Longer the Late Night Party

It was late May when I was in Quebec City. We had attended an industry event in St. Hyacinthe Quebec just over an hour away on Route 20 and we were celebrating my birthday. I was excited to be attending a show on the Music of Motown at one of my favourite theatres called the Theatre Le Captiole.

It had been about ten years since the last time I was in Quebec City with my husband and I was happy to say that the beauty of the city hasn’t changed with the exception of some construction going on in the center. I love the architecture and the feel of the people, the beautiful food, and the crowded patios. Over the years we have seen all the big tourist areas so we go there to relax and party, however the party may be the problem.

If there is one major issue we noticed it was Quebec City was not the late night party capital we remember. Even as a young person living in Thetford Mines Saturday nights in Quebec City was where the party began, but in 2023 the streets roll up early.

We attended a wonderful Motown show at Theatre Le Captiole . We have seen a number of shows there from Elvis to Johnny Cash and they are always outstanding. After the show we wanted to get a late night dessert but the whole town was closed up, including the restaurant in our hotel that was open late the night before. We had been noticing the problem all weekend in the City. Long waits for food if served at all. Some restaurants were only selling alcohol and snacks instead of full meals. Serving staff were certainly stressed trying to keep up with the large crowds of tourists. We were told that there is a shortage of over 11,000 jobs in the serving industry in Quebec City alone.

Would I recommend that you visit Quebec City, most certainly. Would I recommend you watch a show at Le Capitale Theatre, definitely! Would I recommend a late night snack after the show, you may want to purchase it before the show. Quebec City is still beautiful and worth the visit.
