The phone rang and a mad gasp was on the other end of the phone, “Can you help me? I need a document translated by tomorrow morning, it’s urgent.” As I tried to calm down the person enough that I could understand what the lady wanted, I managed to get out of her that she had received a ticket, lost it in her home, and found it again only the other day. She wanted to fight it, but wasn’t sure how to go about it as she couldn’t understand what it said.
I took the job and helped her out. She sent me the document and the next morning I called her with information. It wasn’t pleasant. She felt she wasn’t in the wrong and had planned to fight the ticket, but through the translation soon found out she had missed the window to do so and now was automatically guilty, had to pay the fine, and had to pay my rush fee for my translation services. This was an expensive lesson!
Translation services are expensive to begin with, most fines have small windows of time for replies, and waiting to fight offenses can cause problems on a personal level. Always take care of translation items right away to help defer costs and keep your life in order. You won’t regret it.
