Outridge Translation understands transportation, not only because many of our clients are in the transportation industry but more importantly I have married into the industry by marrying a former professional driver. I may not get as excited over chrome and trucks as my spouse but I do enjoy the people in the industry and the important job that they are doing everyday to keep our grocery stores stocked.
When I was approached about being part of the Professionals of the Highway Tour with The Lead Pedal Podcast I was confused as to why they would need a translator. After all they do interviews all the time without a translator and are mostly centred into the English market, but this tour is taking them further into Quebec than normal. Once I found out the reason behind the tour and the final destination I was all in as the tour ends in my home town.
The Professionals of the Highway Tour will be traveling from Ontario to Quebec talking with truck drivers and industry professionals about what they do, their thoughts about the industry, their passion for the equipment, and what they want people to know that are not part of the transportation industry. The trucking industry has been hailed as heroes and they should have been treated like that long before the pandemic. This tour is meant to keep that feeling alive through the promotion and media of the tour. The tour has three independent areas to it going from Belleville Ontario to Princeville Quebec, Mississauga Ontario to Niagara Ontario, and Woodstock to Windsor Ontario. We will be helping with translating material for French participants and helping to translate interviews with Quebec drivers that don’t speak English.
The one issue that we struggled with was Covid-19 and how that was going to be handled on the tour? The tour is set up in such a way that defences against the virus have been factored into the tour. Interviews are planned for outdoor settings in open areas. Interviews will be social distanced, and stops are planned to meet people one on one so no groups are planned. We want to be very diligent to make sure everyone is safe.
